Bush Fine Arts Auditorium stage. The Java &amp; Jazz concert will feature a variety of great music and is free and open to the public. A variety of coffee, soft drinks, and baked good refreshments will be available during the concert.<\/p>\n<p>Java &amp; Jazz is a concert blend of instrumental and vocal jazz ensembles including the Jazz Band under the direction of Dr. Ben Burge, with vocal ensembles, JC Voices and The Bridge under the direction of Dr. Susan Smith and accompanist, Dr. David Goldblatt. Dr. Smith is assisted by Jennifer Bruton for JC Voices and Greg Wascoe assists with, The Bridge.<\/p>\n<p>The Jazz Band will perform jazz standards such as the Latin Jazz Chart, \u201cGuantanamera,\u201d and standards such as, \u201cBirdland,\u201d \u201cTake Five,\u201d and \u201cAt Last,\u201d featuring vocal soloist, Reagan Dukes of Laurel. The band will also play some funk and rock charts including, \u201cDown to the Night Club,\u201d made famous by Tower of Power, and \u201cVehicle,\u201d by the Ides of March.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am very proud of my students. They have really worked hard on this music and we are all looking forward to our concert. These young vocalists will take you on a journey of folk, jazz, contemporary pop, blues, and Broadway tunes with selections like, Cole Porter&#8217;s,\u00a0\u201cEv\u2019ry Time We Say Goodbye<em>,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>Irving Berlin\u2019s,\u00a0\u201cPuttin\u2019 On the Ritz,\u201d\u00a0and Duke Ellington\u2019s,\u00a0\u201cIt Don&#8217;t Mean a Thing (If It Ain&#8217;t Got That Swing),\u201d\u00a0to the Blues of Lead Belly\u2019s,\u00a0\u201cBring Me a Little Water Silvy,\u201d<em>\u00a0<\/em>and the historically revered,\u00a0\u201cFour Brothers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both vocal groups will be joined by guest faculty and student instrumentalists, Dr. Michael Boyd, (electric bass and banjo) and Zach Gregore-Petal\u00a0(percussion).\u00a0 Dr. David Goldblatt will also accompany JC Voices and Bridge students in Great American Songbook standards.\u00a0Vocal students of Gregory Wascoe and Susan Smith, will also light up the stage with songs that have been covered by famous artists from Frank Sinatra and Michael Bubl\u00e9, to Lady Gaga.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/bridge-3-small.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-537\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/bridge-3-small-1024x776.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"398\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/bridge-3-small-1024x776.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/bridge-3-small-300x227.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/bridge-3-small-768x582.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/bridge-3-small.jpg 1492w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor some of these students, this will be their last performance at Jones because they are graduating,\u201d said JC Voices director, Dr. Susan Smith. \u201cWe\u2019re excited to feature Davonzell Moncrief of Montrose who delights the audience singing, \u2018I&#8217;m Gonna Live Till I Die, by Al Hoffman, Walter Kent, and Manny Kurtz.
