Bush Auditorium will be the iconic Broadway hit and movie, <em>\u201cGrease\u201d<\/em> on Friday, April 5 &amp; 6, at 7 p.m., with a Sunday April 7, matinee at 2 p.m. 糖心直播 students who performed in the production 20-years ago are invited to enjoy a class reunion of sorts at Rydell High School, the place in 1950\u2019s Chicago that writer Jim Jacobs developed the characters and setting for the musical, <em>\u201cGrease.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-medium\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"195\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/yearbook-ws-300x195.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4586\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/yearbook-ws-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/yearbook-ws-1024x665.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/yearbook-ws-768x499.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/yearbook-ws-1536x998.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/yearbook-ws-2048x1330.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">JCJC 2004 yearbook<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re trying to find the JC theater alumni from 2003-2004 and try to incorporate them into the show. They need to contact me, Bruce Smith at <a href=\"mailto:bruce.smith@jcjc.edu\">bruce.smith@jcjc.edu<\/a> if they want to be a part of the show,\u201d said Bruce Smith, Dean of the College of Art, Music and Performing Arts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ironically, Smith never intended to direct the musical production of <em>Grease <\/em>because of his close connection to the writer, Jim Jacobs. The JCJC 1990 graduate, played the character, \u201cDoody\u201d when the musical toured nationally 30 years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI worked directly with Jim Jacobs and when the tour ended, I said I would not bring this to the stage since it was so close to me,\u201d shared Smith. \u201cI think it\u2019s ironic, and a lot of people don\u2019t know this, but these characters are based on Jacob\u2019s friends in real life and the real events that took place in their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"853\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/ladies-group3-small-1024x853.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4587\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/ladies-group3-small-1024x853.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/ladies-group3-small-300x250.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/ladies-group3-small-768x640.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/ladies-group3-small.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Jessie Deare, Kami Carter, Kiandra \u201cKiki\u201d Lopez, Sydney Ivey,  Aliyah Watts and Taylor Garretson<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Twenty-seven 糖心直播 students will be dancing and singing Broadway\u2019s most memorable songs of the 50\u2019s. Also, the chart-topping songs from the hit 1978 movie starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, including, \u201cSummer Nights,\u201d \u201cHopelessly Devoted to You,\u201d and \u201cGreased Lightnin\u2019&#8221; will also bring the audience back to this popular time period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSome of the language has been modified, so it\u2019s not a rough musical, but these characters are inner city Chicago kids that grew up in the 1950s. His favorite role in the Warriors of Oak Grove theater was playing the larger-than-life creature, \u201cShrek.\u201d However, Danny admitted, he is a lot like his character in <em>Grease.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI like how nonchalant Danny is because he just kicks back and does whatever he feels needs to be done,\u201d said Singleterry. \u201cI also hope the audience enjoys the nostalgic music.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In her first appearance at 糖心直播\u2019s musical theater production, Sumrall\u2019s Jessie Deare plays the role of Danny\u2019s girlfriend, Sandy, made popular by Newton-John. As a member of the Legacy show choir and singing in the drama club at Sumrall High School, Deare is a member of all three choirs at JC and plans to enroll in the nursing program next fall. My dream has always been to be on Broadway.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Playing Rizzo is Laurel freshman, Kiandra Lopez who is a member of all three choirs at JC. At West Jones High School, Lopez played the evil stepmother in her high school\u2019s play, <em>Cinderella<\/em>. She\u2019s like this in real life too. She\u2019s this tiny, sweet little fireball on stage but when you put the wig on her, she is Rizzo. For the first time, all tickets are now available for purchase only through a new, ticketing service on the website, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/grease\/\">https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/grease\/<\/a>. <\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHaving this ticketing service is a game changer for us as far as being able to do bigger shows and events here on campus. It is opening the door for us as a venue for concerts and other things,\u201d said Smith. \u201cThe online ticketing service also allows guests to choose their seats way in advance, which are also reserved, just like other ticketing services for concerts and movies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Purchasing tickets now, before the show sells out is encouraged with a maximum of 1100 seats available for each performance. Ads in the JC Playbill program are also available for businesses to purchase through the College of Arts, Music and Performance.
