The show, \u201cPaintings by Paulette Dove\u201d is a collection of stories and the decisions people make. This art exhibit is open to the public free of charge. The JC Art Department will be hosting an \u201cArt Talk\u201d with Dove on Wednesday, November 16, at 1:30 p.m. in the Eula Bass Lewis Art Gallery.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/My-Ride-small.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3360 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/My-Ride-small-135x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"135\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/My-Ride-small-135x300.jpg 135w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/My-Ride-small-768x1708.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/My-Ride-small-461x1024.jpg 461w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/My-Ride-small.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 135px) 100vw, 135px\" \/><\/a>Dove\u2019s preferences for creating her artwork include painting in oils, mixed media and clay. However, the rabbit figures and \u201copportunities\u201d are themes found in all of her artwork currently on display.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy paintings tell stories that make people question their purpose. An image is not only captured but it also challenges the viewer to seek out an understanding of the painting,\u201d said Dove. \u201cI use rabbit heads on human bodies with red balls as a metaphor placed indiscreetly in the paintings. It\u2019s my way of presenting stories about people and their decisions with the red balls representing \u2018opportunities.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/I-Have-This-Opportunity-small.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3359 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/I-Have-This-Opportunity-small-300x265.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"265\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/I-Have-This-Opportunity-small-300x265.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/I-Have-This-Opportunity-small-768x679.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/I-Have-This-Opportunity-small-1024x905.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.jcjc.edu\/jcnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/I-Have-This-Opportunity-small.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Dove is currently working from her Side Door Studio in Biloxi. Her work is also on display at the Biloxi Visitors Center, the South Mississippi Art League at the Biloxi Greenhouse, and The Treehouse Gallery in Oxford.<\/p>\n<p>The Biloxi native earned her B.F.A. and M.Ed. from The Mississippi University for Women and William Carey College. Throughout her 30 years as an educator, she has taught in Mississippi and West Virginia, as well as at Louisiana Tech University, Savanna School of Art, and Bascom Center for Visual Arts in North Carolina.
